Rob Hooton - Hamilton
CBI, CPA, CA, CMA
Rob Hooton has been a lifelong resident of the Hamilton/Brant community. Prior to forming SB Mergers & Acquisitions, Rob was a Partner in a large regional CPA firm. With thirty years of experience in public accounting, he has gained significant experience working with business owners. Rob is also the co-owner of a manufacturing business with annual sales to more than thirty countries worldwide.
Rob has been involved in acquisitions as well as advising on numerous corporate buy and sell transactions for companies with revenues ranging from less than $1 million to in excess of $200 million.
With his entrepreneurial background, Rob understands the day to day issues as well as the challenges and rewards of corporate ownership. His decades of public accounting experience have also given him a far reaching network of contacts that he can tap to help you meet your goals.
Rob is a member of the International Business Brokers Association and a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario and he holds the designations of Certified Business Intermediary, the Certified Public Accountants designation and that of a Chartered Accountant.
Jim Friesen - Niagara
MBA, CMA, CPA, CBI
Jim has spent his professional career working in Finance with large national and global organizations throughout Canada. Prior to forming SB Mergers & Acquisitions, he worked for a national Accounting and Consulting firm where he managed a team of analysts, evaluating the company’s financial performance and identifying Merger and Acquisition (M&A) opportunities.
Jim completed his undergraduate degree at Western University and then completed his CPA/CMA while living in the Greater Toronto Area. A few years later while working in Calgary, Jim completed his MBA at the University of Calgary.
Active memberships include the International Business Brokers Association and Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario. He is also a Certified Business Intermediary.

Ryan Murphy is an analyst and his primary responsibilities include performing analyses to assist in determining the Most Probable Selling Price of businesses, conducting industry research, and preparing and managing marketing documents for our engagements.
He is a co-owner of a manufacturing business with export sales around the world. Before joining SB Mergers & Acquisitions, Ryan was Vice-President of Marketing and Sales for ten years and he was President for eight years in his jointly owned company. Originally, Ryan was brought in to the family business in 2000 and made partner in 2001, he is now business partners with a long-term colleague, both having acquired the other family members’ shares.
Ryan gained enormous entrepreneurial experience in operating a privately-owned family business, as well as successfully completing his degree in Honours Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University with a focus on finance and marketing.
Ryan has a network of business professionals that can assist in meeting your company goals and understands the challenges and rewards of a business owner. He has been acknowledged by the business community with business nominations and awards. Ryan is excited to be part of the Hamilton SB M&A team!
Ross de St. Croix
Ross has been fortunate to have lived and worked his entire life in the Hamilton/Brant region. Having graduated from Brock University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and a Minor in Philosophy, he spent the next few months traveling the world. Once settled back home Ross was hired by Motorola Canada to assist in the building of their cellular division.
His work experience ranges from structuring sales for two Fortune 500 companies, both in the telecommunications sector, to sales, marketing and management in three small boutique manufacturing firms. Working in these roles has given him a unique perspective and a wealth of knowledge in many aspects of business.
Ross has also gained enormous entrepreneurial experience as a partner in three small, privately owned businesses, one in the chemical industry and 2 in the food and hospitality industry. He is very excited to bring this knowledge to the SB M&A Hamilton team.
Ross’ role as an analyst includes developing support for Opinions of Value, conducting industry research and preparing and managing marketing documents for our engagements. He works with a dynamic team of professionals that he can rely on to help meet and exceed your expectations.
Thomas is a team-oriented professional who joins SB M&A as an analyst. He is responsible for research, analysis, valuation, financial modelling and providing client support. Thomas gained valuable experience in business analysis and professional consulting while working in Toronto with a major Canadian bank and with two of the Big 5 Public Accounting Firms. Through this experience, he learned the value in building meaningful and long-lasting relationships.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a Major in Finance from Dalhousie, University and is currently pursuing the CFA designation. In his spare time, he stays active playing hockey, golfing, camping, and spending quality time with friends and family.
Providing outstanding client service has always been an essential part of a day’s work for Anja. As Office Manager, she is responsible for supporting all office procedures, and uses her organizational skills to ensure smooth operations in a busy environment. Anja was originally educated and trained in Business Administration and spent years honing those skills in the manufacturing field. Subsequently she gained experience in business ownership as the proprietor of several businesses and also as a shareholder in a number of privately held corporations. Anja enjoys the team work in the office and she is the friendly voice that will most likely greet your call when you call SB M&A Hamilton offices.
